Help Me Heal

Each week BFK takes in dogs that need extra medical care or who, without surgery, would be put to sleep. These pups are in loving foster homes where they are recovering. If you care to support us with a one-time donation or would like to sponsor a pup during its recovery, know that your contribution will help these little ones to once again be whole.

Meet Toby the Terrific, our newest FurKid.
This little eight-year-old pup was abandoned by his family at a Northern California shelter, due to having a new baby! Diagnosed with diabetes three years ago, Toby needs insulin shots every 12 hours and a specific diet. His family was often too busy to adhere to those requirements so Toby’s diabetes was unregulated for the last year.
As a result, Toby has begun to lose his vision (often a complication of diabetes) but Toby the Terrific is not going to let that stop him. He has the heart and spirit that so many of our bichons have and is determined to live his life to the fullest.

We rescued Toby last week and his amazing foster parents are stabilizing him so that the vets can test him on Friday to determine how much insulin he needs at this point in his life. That test will need to be run again at least twice a year. Toby also needs a well-overdue dental (his fosters say that it’s a darn good thing he’s so cute in the meantime as his breath is scary!) We hope to schedule Toby’s dental and likely extractions for the week of March 25th.

Please help us to care for Toby going forward — and to make up for the care his former family failed to provide.
He’s a sweet little guy with a lot of life left to live!

Thanks for helping Toby!

There are many FurKids like toby who come into BFK rescue needing extensive medical care and rehabilitation before they can lead a normal, healthy life.
