Help Me Heal

Each week BFK takes in dogs that need extra medical care or who, without surgery, would be put to sleep. These pups are in loving foster homes where they are recovering. If you care to support us with a one-time donation or would like to sponsor a pup during its recovery, know that your contribution will help these little ones to once again be whole.

Little Zoe is an amazing pup who is also nothing short of a miracle. She was born with a hole in her heart (like Luna) that did not seal – so she has spent three years with labored breathing and lung-related issues.

Six weeks ago Zoe was ‘dropped’ (we call it dumped) at a shelter in Los Angeles. Shelter staff reached out to BFK and asked if we could help her.
At that point the shelter did not apparently know that Zoe was also pregnant!
That was discovered when she was evaluated by Dr. Zimmerman, the veterinary cardiologist. (There are only six of them in Southern Cal.)

Zoe spent ten days at Stonecreek Animal Hospital gaining strength and preparing for her puppies’ arrival. No one knew if Zoe could carry her puppies to term – or even survive giving birth. Foster Mom BJ was there for Zoe and the puppies and helped to make this all possible.

This little miracle girl did all that – and nursed them lovingly and attentively until this past week. Zoe’s puppies have all been weaned and are thriving. Now it is her turn to be cared for and made whole.

Zoe’s surgery will be done on Wed. afternoon at Access Specialty Animal Hospital in Culver City by Dr. Zimmerman. The estimated cost of the surgery is $5000. The final cost will be determined based on what medications etc. she needs during and after surgery.

BFK is committed to this sweetheart and has been since we rescued her. We are so very grateful that Zoe has been able to carry and deliver six healthy puppies!

If you would like to donate either to BFK or directly to the hospital, we would be very grateful. (Email marti@bichonfurkids.org if you want to make the donation to the hospital.)

Zoe will be available for adoption once she has healed and is expected to live a full and complete “normal” life.

Please keep this darling girl in your thoughts and prayers, especially during her surgery and recovery.
