“Making a Difference in a Dog’s Life”

Winter Fur KidHello Bichon Lovers,
Welcome to our last newsletter of 2018, as we head towards end of year celebrations and, hopefully, a bright and shiny new year.

As we enjoy the companionship of family and friends, the love of our FurKids and all the blessings around us, we know that life’s changes and challenges are often not ‘quite’ what we expect. Our cover story describes the recent experience of an amazing couple who came to Southern California to adopt from us recently, only to return home to Paradise California and the changes that resulted from that devastating fire. Our hats are off to Leslie and David – and the role that Jackson is playing in the next chapter of their lives.

With 2019 around the corner, we hope that you will be inspired to bring a little bit of Bichon FurKids into your life in the form of our calendar. Not only does our team of Judy and Cia keep raising the bar and exceeding the previous year’s efforts, but this year they have also captured a sense of our life in California along the way. You can get a glimpse of our calendar on page 3 and we hope that you will order some for yourself, family and friends.

When we first started hosting the Bichon Bash it was in the ‘Merry Month of May” as the saying goes. In 2019 we are returning to that time of year – and holding our festivities at a new location in Orange County. Please circle the date (May 19th, a Sunday). Starting in January we will be kicking off our Bash planning. Incoming Bash Chairlady, Deb Kisner, will be happy to have you join her team. The more, the merrier! Contact marti@bichonfurkids.org and I will put you in touch with Deb.

Many of you have asked us if there is a way that you can help us to adopt more FurKids. If you have adopted from us you know that we do Home and Yard Safety Checks (HSCs) as part of our adoption process. On page 5 you can learn more about that program. We need “Checkers” in many areas and counties – and hope that you will join us to make it possible to adopt more pups to amazing homes. We also need Drivers to help get FurKids from point A to point B. The article on page 6 provides information – and I think you will enjoy the graphic too! If you can help either by being a Checker or Driver, please complete our volunteer application at www.bichonfurkids.org. Scroll to Applications and complete the Volunteer application.

We love all of our little FurKids and recognize that some of our precious little ones also have ‘special needs.’ We were blessed by the generosity of a volunteer who, in 2010, identified a need to help these pups. That led to the program we call Forever Foster. On page 7 you can read about the program and how it operates. Our Forever Foster program renews in January and we would love your support.

We are always grateful for the donations you provide throughout the year and at year-end. This is our 13th year of serving the needs of bichons and bichon mixes – and we appreciate all of the wonderful volunteers who contribute their time, talent, love and support to addressing these needs. Please note that our team is unsalaried. Everything you donate goes to helping a pup or pups – and that the reward for all of us is seeing happy furkids with their amazing adopters!

So please sit back and enjoy our newsletter. Click on the link below and read it online — or print it out for reading offline.
