“Making a Difference in a Dog’s Life”

Editor’s note: The most wonderful part of rescuing pups is knowing that we can make a difference –
and a BIG difference- in their lives. And the greatest reward is when we are able to place them in
forever homes with amazing adopters.
Flag Waving Fur Kid
Hello Bichon Lovers,
Welcome to our last newsletter of this year! It seems that we just started 2019 and now the holidays and year end are upon us.
We all love our little FurKids from the bottom of our hearts to the tip of our toes (or is it their paws?) And while all FurKids are special, sometimes life creates situations that make them more so. It may be the role they play in our lives or some medical condition or situation in which they find themselves. Our cover article is a heartfelt acknowledgement to a wonderful couple who adopted a senior bichon during Adopt A Senior month. Not only did Anne Marie and Dennis adopt Abbie, but Anne Marie also flew across country to make the adoption ‘happen.’ We often say that we humans would love to be adopted by some of our incredible adopters. That is certainly the case with Anne Marie. Abbie’s story and photos are an indication of why we feel that way!

There is no doubt that there are many deserving seniors who would love to live out their lives in loving homes — yet the shelters are filled with seniors. At this giving time of year, if you can open your heart and home to a senior bichon, you will find the rewards far outweigh anything we can say.

We always appreciate your feedback and want to also acknowledge those of you who make recurring donations to Bichon FurKids. We have a new program we recently launched that you can read about on page 4. There are five categories of sponsorship—from puppies to seniors —and your support enables us to address their needs. Please note that your donations are used exclusively for the care of our FurKids!

At this time of year, and all year long, we want to share a few tips on keeping your FurKid safe, as well as a special treat that they will love, treats that you can make in your home. And speaking of making things, we have included an article on No Sew Blankets. As you have probably seen, these blankets are part of every adoption kit and our FurKids simply adore them! If you have brownies or girl scouts, boy scouts or grandkids that love bichons and want to help in some way, the No Sew Blankets are ALWAYS welcome and a hit. The articles are found on pages 6, 7 and 8.

As we near the end of 2019 and look forward to what we hope will be a happy, healthy and exciting 2020, please consider buying BFK calendars for your family and friends. They are truly beautiful and will make you smile as you see all the photos of happy bichons (and silly bichons, active bichons, mellow bichons and playful bichons!) You can order your calendar online from our Donations page at

It is always through the love, support and generosity of the Bichon FurKids community that all of us volunteers take sustenance. Your support helps us over those bumpy roads and days when we ask ourselves, “Now, what is it that we are doing – and why?” And it is your updates, photos and calls with happy news that gets us through and over those bumpy times. Please KNOW that is what keeps us going!

So please sit back and enjoy our newsletter. Click on the link below and read it online — or print it out for reading offline.
